A shooting that occurred Thursday afternoon in a residential area of ​​Portland, Oregon, left two people injured after an incident involving agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to local police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The injured, a man and a woman whose identities have not been released, were taken to a city hospital. Portland City Council President Elana Pirtle-Guiney reported that both are alive, although authorities have not yet provided details about their condition.

Portland Police Chief Robert Day indicated that the investigation is in its early stages: “We are still in the early stages of this incident,” he stated. He also called on the community to remain calm: “We understand the great emotion and tension many are feeling after the shooting in Minneapolis, but I ask the community to remain calm while we work to gather more information.”

The incident occurred 24 hours after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Good in Minneapolis, a case that has sparked protests against the actions of federal agents and the immigration policies of President Donald Trump’s administration. In recent months, at least seven people have been killed in incidents involving federal forces.

According to Portland police, upon arriving at the scene of the shooting, they confirmed the presence of two ICE agents possibly involved. The FBI initially posted a statement on its Twitter account confirming the involvement of ICE agents, but later removed it.

Local authorities are continuing to gather information and have not released the exact circumstances leading to the shooting.
